In the build up to the FA Cup game with Wokingham, manager Ross Weatherstone has been talking about the tie on BBC local radio.
First up was BBC Radio Berkshire – https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0j939cj – 32 minutes in.
Second up was BBC Radio London where the Moles have been chosen as their team to follow on the road to Wembley. They will follow our progress until we lose and they will keep following the winner – https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0j81dr0 – 51 minutes in.
If our opponents in the FA Cup, Wokingham Town, seem familiar that is because we played them in the competition last season. The game was held on a hot and stormy Friday night in front of a ground record crowd of 604.
The Moles were 2-0 winners with goals from Dan Lewis and Noah Chengun. You can relive the goals below;
We are pleased to welcome goalkeeper Kacper Orlowski who joins from Bromley FC.
After an incredible first half against Maidenhead, Kacper has grown game by game in confidence and we’re looking forward to him starting his Moles journey well on Saturday.
Wokingham Town FC’s first competitive match for more than 20 years, against Binfield in the FA Cup, will also see a battle for silverware of a different kind.
The Martin Joyce Memorial Trophy, currently held by Binfield, has been up for grabs wherever the two teams play each other.
Martin played for both sides and captained Binfield in the 1960s before being killed in a Wokingham road traffic accident in 1967.
The game is especially poignant for Wokingham Town president Mark Ashwell. His wife, Sue, was Martin’s niece.
Sue’s father John Green donated The Martin Joyce Trophy in the late 70s and it’s tradition has endured for all these years
Mark will present the trophy to the winning side on Saturday afternoon
As well as seeking to progress in this year’s FA Cup, Wokingham Town FC will be looking for revenge for the 2-0 win that Binfield inflicted on the Sumas at Lowther Road in the same competition last season.
That match attracted what was a record crowd of 604 for the Emmbrook venue.
Football In Berkshire has reported a previous meeting between the two teams in the Martin Joyce Trophy. In 2016, Wokingham were 3-2 winners. The Moles goals coming from Sean Moore.
Back in 2013, the Moles were 3-1 winners as reported by Get Reading with goals coming from a brace from Carl Davies and Josh Pearson.

As we are only days away from the start of the new season, we sat down with manager Ross Weatherstone to reflect on last season and to look forward to the new season.
We are pleased to be able to announce that Moles keeper Killian Barrett has signed for Championship club Sheffield Wednesday.
Manager Ross Weatherstone brought Killian to the club from Woodley United. He made his debut against Ascot United in mid January and went onto make 21 appearances and more importantly keeping 6 clean sheets which helped the Moles to pull off the great escape.
Killian was also voted Supporters Player of the Season.
Everyone at the club wishes Killian all of the best for the future and we will all be following his career with interest.
Following on from the signing of his brother Duarte, Lucas Surpanu has signed for the Moles from Holyport FC. The Surpanu brothers had previously played together at Flackwell Heath.
Binfield FC have made the decision to become fully cashless as of August 1st 2024. This is a monumental decision that has not been taken lightly and will be in effect for our upcoming FA Cup tie with Wokingham Town FC on Saturday 3rd August at 12:30pm.
Binfield FC is a community club that relies solely on its volunteers, due to this and bank branch closures around the UK, cash has become an unfeasible payment method to manage. We are unable to obtain denominations of change which impacts on our supporters when purchasing goods from our establishment.
Becoming a cashless club will allow us to streamline both our matchday and non-matchday experience and better serve our community. Last season we invested in a new point of sale system and the underlying technology to allow this to fully function with speed and ease. We have researched into how other football clubs of similar sizes have achieved this feat and believe we are now fully equipped to do the same.
Thank you, as always, for your support and we look forward to seeing you at the Iconic Stadium in the future.
Jamie Hilton is the latest signing to join the Moles in the run-up to the 2024/25 season.
Jamie is a product of Woking FCs Academy. He joined Guildford City at the start of 2024 and made 11 appearances for them in the Combined Counties League Premier Division South.
