It was Friday Night Football at the Iconic Stadium as the Moles welcomed Ashford Town (Middx). The game was important for both teams as the Moles wanted to create space between themselves and the bottom four whilst the Tangerines were trying to get out of the relegation zone.
After a dry week, the rain started as the match started which seemed to set the tone for the game. There were few chances for the Moles in the first half. Ashford had a couple of chances including a save from CJ which kept out a shot from Vorster and somehow missing an open goal.
The deadlock was broken at the end of the first half when Ashford took the lead as Arnold put the ball in the back of the net after the ball had been ricocheting around the box and the Moles failed to decisively clear.
In the 60th minute, the Moles brought on Brighton Morrison and Jamie Hilton to replace Razhir Smith-Jones and Rechan Espirit. The change seemed to work when the Moles scored from a cross from Brighton on the right hand side. However, the goal was given offside for reasons that I can’t explain until I see the video footage.
Ashford prevented the Moles from any further attacking opportunities and the game finished 1-0 to Ashford which lifted them out of the relegation zone.
The Moles travel to Woking on Tuesday night to play Westfield.
