Westfield vs Binfield

Recap

Despite late pressure from the Moles, Westfield move up to third in the Isthmian League South Central after beating Binfield 2-1 at Woking Park. The loss means Binfield stay 9th, just 5 points off the playoffs but with 3 games in hand on Chertsey who sit in 5th.

Westfield started the better side and showed their dominance from the start and it paid off early on after Florian Envoudou Ada pounced on a poor pass in the Moles midfield before slotting the ball past Chris Grace to give the hosts the lead.

It seemed that it was all Westfield for the remainder of the first half, but no clear cut chances fell to the boys from GU22. The break came at a good time for the moles who were able to go in and recharge for a frantic second half of action.

It was Westfield that managed to edge further forward through Bracknell Town loanee Darnell Goather-Braithwaite, who’s fantastic strike from outside the area found it’s way past Grace to double “The Yella’s” lead.

It was an up-field battle for the Moles, who were on top for the rest of the second half but were struggling to find the killer touch in the final third to really offer a way back into the game.

It was, however, a goal from an unlikely source that got them back into it, through Liam Gavin with just 8 minutes to play, after some great work and a fantastic cross from Kai Hobbs down the Binfield right which set Gavin up to half the deficit.

Despite their dominance, the Moles couldn’t find that all important equaliser and paid the price at Woking Park and walk away ‘pointless’. Tonight, does mean an end to the tough run of away games for the moles, as five out of their next six games are to be played at Hill Farm Lane, with Bedfont making the journey on Saturday.
