Despite the bad weather, players, coaches and families of all Binfield FC age groups came out to support the first Great Binfield FC run. Organised to support the club’s #BinfieldXBondi lockdown challenge, the run saw everyone coming onto the streets, in a socially distanced way, to clock up some miles to help them reach Bondi Beach in Australia.
The lockdown challenge was organised to keep everyone at the club fit and healthy, both physically and mentally, during these tough times. With our players unable to play football or train, we needed a challenge to get everyone active so it was decided we would run (or walk or cycle if under 12 years old) from our home ground at Hill Farm Lane in Binfield to Bondi Beach, some 10,584 miles away!
As well as keeping fit, we’ve also managed to raise some much needed funds for our chosen club charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). We set ourselves a target of £1,000 for the cause…and have smashed it already with over £1500 raised already from our generous supporters.
In terms of reaching Bondi, we are tallying up mileage on a weekly basis. As of Sunday 14th November, we had reached Malaysia…clocking up an impressive 7238 miles. Still some way to go to reach Bondi…but we are confident we will smash this target too as we keep active in lockdown!
