Who is up and who is down?

As we go into the final round of games, we thought we would take a look at the promotion / relegation situation in the Isthmian League South Central Divsion.

Chertsey are champions. They secured the title with two weeks to spare with a win over local rivals Ascot United.

Marlow, Leatherhead and Southall already have playoff places secured. The final place is between Westfield and Raynes Park Vale. However, Westfield have a game in hand – they play Northwood on Tuesday 23rd. If they win that then they will take place. If they draw, then RPV will need to win their final game against Guernsey and hope Westfield lose to Corinthian Casuals. The final playoff order can still change depending on the final set of results.

Corinthian Casuals were relegated with their 4-1 defeat against the Moles. Chipstead currently occupy the final relegation place. They will be relegated unless they beat 2nd place Southall and the Moles fail to pickup a point against Uxbridge – in which case the Moles will be relegated.

There is a remote chance that Ashford could be relegated – they would need to lose against Met Police, Chipstead beat Southall and the Moles pickup at least a point against Uxbridge but Chipstead would also need to close a six goal difference in the process.

The Final Four

Mole Captains England

Jack Matton has been announced in the starting line-up and captain for the England U18 Schoolboys team in their game against Scotland at Chesterfield FC tonight. You can watch the game live on the English Schools’ Football Association YouTube channel.

Jack has played twice for England in the last two weeks; firstly in the 2-0 defeat to Wales and the 4-0 win over the Republic of Ireland. Since joining the Moles on dual registration from Woking Academy, Jack has played 9 times scoring twice including this great strike against Hartley Wintney.

We look forward to welcoming Jack back to the club for the final few games of the season.

Club Statement: Change of Venue – Home game vs Sutton Common Rovers

Due to the wettest winter on record, the Moles have seven games to play in less than three weeks. To ensure that we fulfil our fixtures, the decision has been made to move our home game against Sutton Common Rovers on Tuesday 9th April to The Racecourse Ground, the home of Ascot United.

Although this is not an ideal situation, with the forecast rain at the beginning of next week, this will ensure that the game can be played as the Moles continue to battle to avoid relegation. We would like to thank our friends at Ascot United for their support in helping us move this fixture.

Come down to the Racecourse Ground, Ascot and support the Moles in this unique ‘away’ home game.

Matchday: Tuesday 9th April
Kickoff: 7:45pm

Address: Ascot Racecourse, Car Park 7&8, off A330 Winkfield Road, Ascot SL5 7LJ

Match Preview: Northwood FC – Home

After the disappointment of the last minute postponement of the away fixture at Badshot Lea on Tuesday, the Moles are back in action with a home fixture against Northwood FC.

Matchday: Thursday April 4th, 2023
Kickoff: 7:45 pm

About Northwood FC

A team was formed in Northwood back in 1899 but Northwood FC in its current form is believed to have been founded in 1926. Their initial history is unclear but they joined the Harrow & Wembley League in 1931 where they won an impressive six titles in a row prior to World War 2 and three more titles after the war. They spent the 1950s and 1960 playing mainly junior-level football.

The club joined the Isthmian League in 1992 via spells in the Hellenic and Spartan Leagues. This was one of their most successful periods which lead them gaining promotion to Step 3 and the Premier Division. They were then switched to the Southern League Premier Division but after relegation were moved back to the Isthmian League Division One North. Another switch back to the Southern League before they were moved back again to their current league – Isthmian League South Central.

Head to Head

We have played Northwood 3 times already this season. The first was a 4-1 away defeat in the league before a 2-2 draw in the FA Cup. We lost the replay 1-0 with a last minute goal for Northwood.
