Football under floodlights is back at the Iconic Stadium. After three cup games in a row, the Moles are back in league action with a Monday night game against Uxbridge FC.

Who are Uxbridge FC?

Uxbridge FC were founded in 1871, celebrated their 150th anniversary last year and are one of the oldest clubs in the South of England. During the history of the club, they have played in a number of different leagues including the Corinthian, Athenian and then the Isthmian League which they joined in 1982.

The club finished second in Division Two South in 1984–85 and gained promotion to Division One, where they remained for twenty years. In the 2018-19, they were moved again, this time to their current league Isthmian League Division One South Central.

Head to head record

FA Trophy

The Story of Binfield and the FA Trophy

Did you know that this is only the fourth season that the Moles have been competing in the FA Trophy? The FA Trophy is for teams competing in Steps 1–4 of the National League System so we only entered it following our promotion to the Isthmian League South Central Division in the 2021/22 season.

As we now start our journey in this years FA Trophy, we take a look back at how we got on in the FA Trophy in the last three seasons.

2021-22 Season

Our first ever game in the FA Trophy was away to North Leigh in the 2nd qualifying round. The game finished 2-2 with The Moles coming back from being 2-0 down after 20 minutes. We progressed through to the next round with a 4-1 win in the penalty shootout.

In the 3rd qualifying round, we were drawn away to Herne Bay. In front of a crowd of 260, the Moles won 2-0 to qualify for the first round. The Moles drew Cinderford Town for their first FA Trophy home game. They came away as 3-0 winners to continue their impressive debut FA Trophy season.

In the second round, The Moles were drawn at home against Truro City. The Moles were 3-0 down by half-time and despite second half goal from Ollie Harris and Josh Howell, it couldn’t stop The Moles from exiting the FA Trophy.

2022-23 Season

Our 2022-23 FA Trophy run started with an away game against Marlow Town FC.  First half goals came from Johnny Efedje and Jonathan Denton and there were two more in the second half from Sean Moore and Brandon Curtis. A strong performance had The Moles winning 4-0.

In the 2nd qualifying round, The Moles had yet another away cup game – this time away to Thame United. Roger Herridge’s first match in caretaker charge saw Binfield overcome Thame United thanks to goals from James Beauchamp and Taylor Morgan. The game finished 2-1 to The Moles.

In the 3rd qualifying round, The Moles drew Hendon away. In a tight game which finished 0-0, The Moles progressed with a 5-4 win on penalties.

Progressing through to the 1st round proper, The Moles had the long trip to Tavistock AFC. The Moles were 2-0 down after 30 mins and despite a late goal from James Beauchamp, they were unable to close the gap and lost 2-1.

2023-24 Season

The Moles were drawn away to Ashford United. The game was played at Chatham Town FC. It was a poor performance from the Moles and the ended up getting by 7-1. The consolation goal coming from a Ben Stallard free kick.

2024-25 Season

This season we have been drawn against league newcomers Horndean FC. The Moles have already lost 4-0 to them in the league. Can they get revenge on their trip down the A3?

Established in 1904, Badshot Lea Football Club played in local leagues before joining the Surrey Intermediate League, where they won Division One in 1936-37, 1937-38, and 1985-86. After winning the Challenge Cup in 1987-88 and the Invitation Cup in 1989-90, they were relegated to Division Two but won the division in 1992-93. The club was placed in the Premier Division South in 2021 and was runners-up in the division in 2022-23, earning promotion.

Didn’t we play Badshot Lea in this competition last season?

Funny you should ask. Yes, the Moles faced Badshot Lea in the early rounds of this competition last season. The Moles put out a team of youngsters and triallists. However, Badshot Lea were too strong and ran out 6-0 winners.

In the league, Badshot beat the Moles 3-0 at the Iconic Stadium whilst in the reverse fixture (played in Slough due to the bad weather), the Moles won 5-2 which contributed to the Great Escape.

Where do Badshot Lea FC play?

Badshot Lea FC play at the Operatix Community Ground. The address is Westfield Lane (Entrance off Riverdale), Wrecclesham, Farnham, Surrey GU10 4PF.

Entrance off Riverdale. Do not rely 100% on Sat Nav as Westfield Lane is a dead end and there is no vehicle access to the ground.

FA Cup

Introducing: Lordswood FC

Lordswood Fc Logo

The Moles now move onto the 1st qualifying round of the FA Cup. Following their 9-1 win over Longlevens AFC, they now travel to Kent to face Lordswood AFC.

Who are Lordswood FC?

The club was established in 1968. They initially joined the Rochester and District League and were promoted in successive seasons to the Premier Division. In 1982 the club moved up to Division Two of the Western Section of the Kent County League. A third-place finish in their first season in the division saw them promoted to Division One. In 1984–85 the club were Division One runners-up, earning promotion to the Premier Division of the Western Section.

Lordswood were Premier Division runners-up in 1986–87 and were promoted to the Senior Division. They were subsequently Senior Division runners-up in 1989–90. Although the club finished bottom of the Senior Division in 1991–92, league reorganisation and a merger of the Eastern and Western sections saw them placed in the Premier Division of the league the following season. They were Premier Division runners-up in 1994–95, before moving up to the Kent League in 1996.

In 2004–05 Lordswood finished bottom of the Kent League. This was repeated in 2009–10, but there was no relegation in either season. In 2013 the league was renamed the Southern Counties East League, and following the addition of a second division in 2016, the club became members of the league’s Premier Division. They finished the 2021–22 season in the relegation zone, but were reprieved due to vacancies in divisions above.

How did Lordswood FC get to the 1st qualifying round?

The first qualifying round is the furthest the club has progressed in the FA Cup – a feat they previously achieved in 2001–02 and 2005–06. This season, they beat Erith & Belvedere 1-0 in the Extra Preliminary round and Shoreham 3-1 in the Preliminary round – both games were at home.

In the league, they currently sit second in the Southern Counties East Football League with three wins and one defeat.

Where do Lordswood FC play?

Lordswood is a suburb of Chatham and the football club play at Martyn Grove, North Dane Way, Chatham, Kent ME5 8YE.
