The Moles now move onto the 1st qualifying round of the FA Cup. Following their 9-1 win over Longlevens AFC, they now travel to Kent to face Lordswood AFC.

Who are Lordswood FC?

The club was established in 1968. They initially joined the Rochester and District League and were promoted in successive seasons to the Premier Division. In 1982 the club moved up to Division Two of the Western Section of the Kent County League. A third-place finish in their first season in the division saw them promoted to Division One. In 1984–85 the club were Division One runners-up, earning promotion to the Premier Division of the Western Section.

Lordswood were Premier Division runners-up in 1986–87 and were promoted to the Senior Division. They were subsequently Senior Division runners-up in 1989–90. Although the club finished bottom of the Senior Division in 1991–92, league reorganisation and a merger of the Eastern and Western sections saw them placed in the Premier Division of the league the following season. They were Premier Division runners-up in 1994–95, before moving up to the Kent League in 1996.

In 2004–05 Lordswood finished bottom of the Kent League. This was repeated in 2009–10, but there was no relegation in either season. In 2013 the league was renamed the Southern Counties East League, and following the addition of a second division in 2016, the club became members of the league’s Premier Division. They finished the 2021–22 season in the relegation zone, but were reprieved due to vacancies in divisions above.

How did Lordswood FC get to the 1st qualifying round?

The first qualifying round is the furthest the club has progressed in the FA Cup – a feat they previously achieved in 2001–02 and 2005–06. This season, they beat Erith & Belvedere 1-0 in the Extra Preliminary round and Shoreham 3-1 in the Preliminary round – both games were at home.

In the league, they currently sit second in the Southern Counties East Football League with three wins and one defeat.

Where do Lordswood FC play?

Lordswood is a suburb of Chatham and the football club play at Martyn Grove, North Dane Way, Chatham, Kent ME5 8YE.

On Fire Moles Progress In The FA Cup

An astonishing performance from the moles to capture a place in the 1st qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The afternoon began very brightly for the moles as target man Tyler D’Cruz headed Binfield into the lead with just six minutes on the clock. We doubled our advantage with a very first goal for Josh McMenemy for the Moles!

Mitchell Parker had an unreal beginning of the afternoon beginning with several showings of the many tricks in his arsenal. Rechan Espirit was the first player of the afternoon to be introduced to a caution after delaying the restart from a Longlevens free kick.

The Moles’ bombardment of pressure continued which added a third and a fourth in quick succession, all before the 40th minute. Tyler scoring the third – securing his brace – Also, Rahzir Smith-Jones adding to his goal tally to add a fourth. Then, Parker decided to show off more of the magic he has, one of which is the wand of a left foot he acquires, which caressed a 35 yard effort into the top right corner from a free kick.

This gave the moles a 5 goal advantage going into the break, which was dream worthy for the Binfield fans in attendance this afternoon after the long journey. They were certainly rewarded for their dedication.

The restart of the second half was met with a quiet opening 15 minutes, however there were some chances for the hosts to possibly grab a goal, however they couldn’t be executed. This early second half pressure made manager Ross Weatherstone decide it was time for some added energy to be introduced to the game to see out the result.

This resulted in Rechan Espirit and Elijas Bagdonavicius being replaced by Connor Jeanes and Duarte Surpanu respectively. Not long after they were introduced, Tyler does what he does best, and scored another. Giving him his first hat trick of the 2024/25 season!

Another double change occurred when hattrick hero Tyler D’Cruz was replaced by Lucas Surpanu and goalscorer Rahzir Smith-Jones left the pitch, in turn of a very inform Charlie George. Longlevens did get a consolation goal from a very well-worked strike from their number 18, Fin Gwillim.

Charlie George produced yet another wonder strike for the Moles this afternoon, after a corner was taken quickly by Parker, and Charlie took it round a defender and sweetly finessed his effort into the far right corner. Just over a minute later, A sensational outside of the foot cross was whipped in by Duarte and was met by Charlie George’s head to give him another goal for his already impressive tally in the 81st and 83rd minute. Again, just two minutes later, Binfield had nine, after a cool, calm and collected finish from undoubtedly man of the match, Mitchell Parker.

This was very soon ended by the referees whistle, which resulted in Binfield’s FA Cup adventure continuing into the 1st Qualifying round!

Many thanks to Longlevens AFC for their hospitality this afternoon, and we would like to wish them the very best for the season ahead.
