Binfield’s FA Cup run comes to an end in heartbreaking fashion after a 91st minute Northwood winner by Carl Stewart.
For the third time in eight days, the Moles clashed with Northwood at the Skyline Roofing Stadium and started brightly with Noah Chengun’s attempted overhead kick blocked and Troy Murray’s effort from the edge of the box tested Andrew McCorkell. Northwood then had a good opportunity to open proceedings but Harvey Rackley-Hayes denied Kofi Anokye-Boadi.
The Moles then had a good spell midway through the first half and were presented a golden opportunity to take the lead when Ben Stallard latched onto a short back pass. He picked the bottom right corner but a great save from McCorkell denied Stallard and the ball went out for a corner. He was denied again minutes later after some great play from Rechan Esprit.
Northwood then should’ve gone head before half time when Osaretin Otote had a free header at the back post but Rackley-Hayes did well to deny him.
The second half was full of chances for both teams. Northwood went close through Deago Dunbar-Bonnie and Riccardo Alexander-Greenaway. On 73 minutes it looked like they were going to take the lead after Rackley-Hayes pulls out a great stop to deny Daniel Williams and the ball fell to Dunbar-Bonnie but an unbelievable tackle from Liam Campbell prevented the shot.
The Moles then had another great chance to make it into the next round when the ball broke to Finn Harvey but McCorkell did well again to deny him and moments later Murray’s effort his the side netting.
After hitting the post, Northwood broke the deadlock in the 91st minute when a ball over the top played through Dan Williams who was able to control the ball well against an oncoming Rackley-Hayes and was able to set up Carl Stewart who put it into an empty net.
So the Moles FA Cup run comes to an end after some valiant performances against Northwood. They go again in the FA Trophy on Sunday away to Ashford United.
