Hear from Binfield FC manager Garry Haylock as he reacts to Binfield’s 1-1 draw with Chipstead.
When describing the performance in the one-all draw against Chipstead:
‘I think we worked really hard. We got a really good reaction from the players last Friday in the FA Cup and we set a standard that needed to be matched. And for long periods of the game today we met those standards. We moved the ball well. We still have a few issues over decision making in the final third and trusting each other.’
He went on to say:
‘We have just got to learn how to manage games. Every team is entitled to work hard and come back at us and they did and had a good 15 minute spell and you’re thinking we could lose this now. And we did well to step in and then they had a man sent off and I thought we had two really really good chances and you take one of those and you win the game and it’s a different conversation.’
When talking about the response after a difficult start to the season:
’It is a brand new group and the message after the game has been. In the first game we had 9-10 people making their debut and 7 making their debut at this level. I think the pace of the game surprised everybody and now we have stepped up a little bit and we were at the pace for a lot of the game today. The distance we have travelled after getting beat 6-0 on the first day to today’s game where we’ve had two exceptionally good chances to win the game. We are a working progress: we are at least 4-5 games behind everyone else and we will improve every game and we have the working of a good side.
When talking about how the team can use this as a platform for future games:
We set benchmarks on our work-rate and what is required. We will take the point and move on and the message to the players would be a big backward step the first game and now we’ve taken half a step forward and it’s the start of an unbeaten run hopefully.
