Binfield FC 1-2 Westfield FC – Match Report

Match Report – Binfield’s last 10 minute push is no avail as Westfield claim all three points at Hill Farm Lane.

Both teams were looking for their first win in five games which perhaps explained the cagey and scrappy nature of the football in the first half an hour.

Binfield grew into the game and seemed to gain control of proceedings but they went behind on 36 minutes when Samir Bajja found space in the middle of the park a slid through Didi Ndombe. He held his run to beat the Binfield high line and slotted it past Harvey Rackley-Hayes.

Then something you don’t see too often. Westfield’s Niran Butler plays the ball back to Wheeler but the ball bobbles over his foot after being closed down by Conor Lynch. Wheeler then dives onto the ball and Binfield get an indirect free kick in the Westfield box. Harrison Bayley laid the ball off to Brandon Curtis but his shot was well-blocked.

Binfield’s best chance of the half came on the brink of half-time when Brandon Curtis’ corner just falls over the crossbar.

Westfield doubled their lead when NDombe intercepted Rackley-Hayes’ throw and then was able to finish over the top of the Moles keeper.

Conor Lynch trying to pull a goal back for the Moles…

The Moles had a great opportunity to pull a goal back when Luke Brophy’s free kick found Liam Gavin but he couldn’t get his header on target. The three Moles substitutions chanced the tide of the game. The Binfield of old returned in the last 10 minutes with James Beauchamp sliding in Taylor Morgan but he couldn’t quite finish past the keeper. Then Harvey Harry won a free kick on the edge of the box which led to a goal mouth scramble with both Kai Hobbs and Lewis Pegg’s shots being blocked.

The Moles’ pressure eventually paid off in added time when Brad Pagliaroli picked out James Beauchamp whose brave header found the back of the net but it wasn’t enough.

Although it’s no win in five for the Moles, they can take great confidence from the last ten minutes which they will look to take with them for Tuesday’s home tie against Hanworth Villa as the play-off spot still in their hands.
