The Moles held at Home by in-form Thatcham Town – Match report
An injured time penalty by substitute Cameron Rohart-Browne earned Thatcham Town a point against the Moles on Tuesday evening.
Both teams started brightly and looked to take the game to their opposition. Thatcham had the first real chance of the game but Mo Cheesy couldn’t direct his header on target after a great ball from Ramari Medford-Smith.
Binfield then gained foot-hold in the game and took the lead in the 19th minute through in-form Conor Lynch. Some great build-up play between Conor Holland and Brandon Curtis on the right and they found Lynch in the box who tucked the ball into the bottom corner. That’s Lynch’s 4th goal in as many games.
Thatcham had a chance to equalise minutes later when Harry Williams was played through. Harvey Rackley-Hayes was quickly out to smother the first effort and Liam Gavin’s second block dealt with the remaining danger.
The Moles, who were moving the ball noticeably quicker, had a great chance to double their lead in what would’ve been the move of the match. Jonny Denton won a 50-50 on half and set up the counter attack. He found Conor Lynch down the left who linked up with Brandon Curtis. He then found Brad Pagliaroli on the edge of the box but his shot crept just over the bar.
The Moles did double their lead just before half-time. It was a swift counter again from a Thatcham corner as Pagliaroli broke down the left and picked out Lynch in the middle who slotted home to double the Moles’ lead going into the break.
Thatcham pulled one back straight after half-time when Ramari Meford-Smith flicked in Alfie Saunders’ set piece.
The Moles looked to see the game out and their back line, led by Liam Gavin, dealt with set-piece after set-piece. However, in the 90th minute, a ball over-the-top and a 50-50 challenge led to the referee pointing to the spot. Cameron Rohart-Browne sent Rackley-Hayes the wrong way to steal a point for Thatcham.
The draw leaves the Moles two points off the playoffs with games in hand on the teams above. The Moles travel to bottom of the league Totting & Mitcham United on Saturday looking to get their play-off push back on track.
