A tale of two halves as we exit the FA Trophy

Horndean 3-0 Binfield 7/9/2024

The moles exit the FA trophy following a tough afternoon.

This afternoon’s FA trophy tie began very fast paced with several chances for Binfield to take an early lead. The main chance was from Mitchell Parker who capitalised well off a mistake from the Horndean back line, but couldn’t steer his shot on target. More one sided football followed, with Espirit putting a great ball in for Parker, however was defended very well by the ‘Dean’ back line. Yet another chance for the Moles to take the lead came from Lucas Surpanu who was agonisingly close to adding a goal to his tally for the season. One of very few Horndean chances in the first half came off a mistake from the Binfield defence, left Horndean with an opening to strike, however colliding with the post. We entered the break still goalless, but plenty of chances for both sides.

The second half began very badly for the boys in the blue this afternoon, falling behind due to a good finish by Kelvin Robinson. A double substitution occurred to try and spark a comeback for the Moles, with Lucas Surpanu and Rahzir Smith-Jones leaving the field of play, allowing Elijas Bagdonvicius and Duarte Surpanu to take their place. However this was followed by another goal from Kelvin Robinson to give the hosts a 2 goal advantage, both from their target man. The hopes of a Binfield come back were squashed when Zackary Willett finished well from range. The afternoon was further soured due to Mitchell Parker’s dismissal for an off the ball incident.

The moles exit the FA trophy, and turn their attention to Ismithian League football back at the Iconic, where we face Uxbridge in a 7:45pm KO. Come down and support the boys.
