The Moles exit the FA Cup

Binfield fell to a 3-1 defeat against Lordswood in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. Taylor Brown was there to cover to action:

Heartbreaking end to the Moles’ FA Cup journey.

This afternoon’s Emirates FA Cup tie began well for Binfield with pressure creeping up on the home side’s defence. Binfield gained an early lead through Mitchell Parker with a good finish from a tight angle. Pressure was building up even further on the ‘Lords defence, but the advantage could not be built upon. The home side did have a few great chances, but they were not executed. The Binfield defence was under a lot of pressure during the closing minutes of the first half however it was fought off bravely, with a brilliant off the line clearance from Luke Wayborn.

The moles entered the break with a one goal advantage, however this was quickly changed with the Lords forward, Matt Gething equalling the game. Connor Jeanes picked up a caution in the 55th minute to become the first Binfield player to pick up a card this afternoon. Lordwood quickly gained the lead through Eillot Duncan in the 66th minute, leaving Binfield with a mountain to climb. A good spell of chances for Binfield occurred due to the introduction of Stewart and Wynn for Binfield. However, the chance of a comeback was quickly flattened with Elliot Duncan scoring an audacious lob.

Unfortunately, this means our FA Cup adventure comes to an end. We wish Lordswood the best of luck in the next round.

Our attention moves forward to our first midweek game of the competitive season, facing Badshot Lea away in the Velocity cup on Tuesday 3rd September.
