Guernsey 3-3 Binfield Match Report

The points were shared at the Footes Lane Stadium after an action-packed match in the early kick off.

Binfield were looking to make it three wins on the bounce but started in the worst possible way when Matt Loaring put the hosts ahead through a brilliant chip over Killian Barrett. Guernsey doubled their lead three minutes later through Guernsey’s record goalscorer Ross Allen through a powerful strike.

After some pressure built up by the Moles through set pieces and throws, they pulled a goal back. Luke Wayborn’s long throw caused carnage in the box and eventually after a scramble, Tyler D’Cruz was able to knock it past keeper Josh Addison.

After hitting the top of the crossbar from a free kit, the Moles were level – in bizarre circumstances. The ball was played over the top for Mitch Parker to run onto but the recovery defender Dave Morris managed to get ahead but as he stretched, he could only chip the ball over the stranded Josh Addison and into the back of the net.

Guernsey then had a golden chance to retake the lead but Barrett did well initially to save the initial chance and once the ball was recycled, Guernsey were unable to keep a header down despite being yards out and an open goal to aim for.

The Moles took the lead immediately after the break through the move of the match. Rahzir Smith-Jones released Glenn Gabriel on the left and put in a perfect ball for D’Cruz to get his second of the game and his fourth in three games.

Guernsey levelled the tie again through Sam Murray when he found some space in the box and was able to covert his header home.

Both team had chances to win it. D’Cruz and Parker’s headers were straight at Addison while Allen fired his shot over the bar when in a good position.

Ultimately, a draw is a fair result for both sides and means the Moles are unbeaten in three games for the first time this season. They still remain four points from safety but FOUR massive games at the Iconic Stadium gives them a chance of pulling off the ‘Great Escape!’
