Binfield FC 1-1 South Park – Match Report

10-man Binfield FC earn a point on Tuesday night as they held on after a late onslaught from visitors, South Park Reigate.

The Moles went into the match without playing a competitive fixture for over two weeks, due to multiple postponements after a wet second half of February, Binfield FC hosted South Park and Reigate Isthmian League action on Tuesday night.

It was the Moles who started the brighter of the two sides as they put plenty of balls into the box and set pieces but unable to grind out a chance.

However, it was from a Moles corner that South Park created their first chance of the game. A swift counter attack with the ball finding Sam King on the right. He cut inside and drilled his shot at Killian Barrett who did well to make the initial save and Jahkeylo Burgess was there to clear the ball away.

King was causing trouble for the Moles defence and should’ve put South Park ahead five minutes later but he dragged his shot wide of the left post. It then appeared that he was through on the Moles goal again but a great recovery run from Luke Wayborn prevented the chance.

The Moles pushed hard themselves for an opener but failed to create a clear-cut chance. The closest they came was on the stroke of half-time, when a scramble in the box resulted in the ball falling to Ethan Lindo but his shot was well-blocked.

The moles started the second half brightly as Matt flick on from Luke Weyborn throat found Dan Louis, however, his head up was comfortably saved by the South Park, goalkeeper.

The moles came close again as Luke Wayborn kept the ball alive after a half clearance from a corner, but Dontaye Whittaker’s volley flew over the bar. It’s then seemed, it would only be a matter of time before the moles found an opener as Rechan Esprit’s free kick, crashed off the post before being cleared.

The goal eventually came for the moles; and it was top-goalscorer Dontaye Whittaker who broke the deadlock as he smashed home from close range after Tyler D’Cruz’s attempted overhead kick fell straight into the path of the Binfield number 11, for his 12th goal of the season.

Just five minutes later though, defender Jack Matton’s foul on the edge of the area was deemed as a dismissible offence by referee Craig Davenport and the Moles were reduced to 10-men for the final twenty minutes.

Despite some valiant, defending from the ten-man-moles, it took just seven minutes for South Park to find the equaliser as Craig McGee levelled things up with just 15 minutes remaining.
