They say a week is a long time in football, but for the Moles it took just five days to turn things around. After a disappointing 6-2 defeat at Egham on Tuesday night, they were back in action against fellow strugglers Littlehampton Town.
Manager Ross Weatherstone strengthened his squad, bringing in Brandon Campbell and Henry Mott, who both started, while CJ Fubler returned in goal.
The home fans were understandably nervous when the visitors took the lead in the 13th minute. But the Moles kept creating chances, led by the poshest forward pair in football, Montgomery and Henry. Henry got his debut goal for the club in the 25th minute to send the teams in level at 1-1.
Whatever was said in the dressing room at half-time clearly worked. Henry grabbed his second in the 57th minute, and further goals followed from Quincy Patterson, Jake Pickett and Brandon Campbell, who also scored on his debut. Henry then completed his debut hat-trick in the 88th minute.
It’s the performance that has been threatening to arrive for the last few games, and hopefully the team can now push on and start climbing the table.
Ross Weatherstone summed it up after the game:
“Get in. That’s 2 big home wins this month to build on. Massive credit to the players, the management team, exec committee & all the supporters, that result was for you all that continue to stick with us through the process. Up The Moles”
Next up is an away trip to Hayes & Yeading next Saturday.
