Following a rare Saturday off, the Moles travelled down the Forest Road to the Racecourse Ground to face local rivals Ascot United.
The team was much changed from their 4-0 defeat last week to Ashford Town. Captain Dan Lewis returned from an injury he picked up pre-season and Brandon Curtis rejoined alongside new signings Jayden Prunty, Jayden Ashbourne and Mihail Marinescu.
The Moles had the better start to the game but were unable to convert their chances. However, it was the home team that took the lead in the 42nd minute when Quaye Vine converted a penalty. They doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time when Kai Zini converted a Fope Deru cross.
The second half wasn’t any better for the visitors with Ascot getting a further 2 goals from Fope Deru and Elijah Anthony.
Another poor performance from the Moles gives manager Ross Weatherstone some challenges to solve. Ross commented;
“I wont hide. I wont make excuses & I wont stop working until we get it right. There was nothing between the teams for 41mins, until we turnover the ball & give a needless penalty away! Our next action from that moment must be stronger! Now, we stick together & graft!”
We now have two home games over the bank holiday period. First up is an FA Trophy tie against Deal Town on Saturday followed by the visit of Hartley Wintney on Bank Holiday Monday.
