It is a bit cliched to say that every game is a cup final but with the Moles sitting just above the relegation zone, it is important for them to get points to start to ensure another season at Step 4. After two defeats, the Moles need to get their season back on track against in form Kingstonian who climbing up the table.
The Moles started the stronger side put the K’s under a lot of pressure but were unable to make that final touch to take the lead. However, the K’s took the lead in the 9th minute when a long ball was picked up by Eddie Simon who slotted the ball past Moles keeper CJ Fubler. The lead was double just a minute later when a short clearance from CJ was picked up by Rocky Williams who lobbed the ball into the back of the net.
Being two down in just 10 minute but the brakes on the Moles attack and they couldn’t get back into their stride for the rest of the half.
The Moles pulled one back 10 minutes into the second half when Natty Boakye headed down a cross from Nathan Jones to put the ball past K’s keeper Liam Beach. The Moles had plenty of chance in the final 30 minutes of the game but they were just unable to find the last ball past an experience K’s line-up.
The team will come away from the game feeling that this was 3 points dropped. After the game, Moles manager Ross Weatherstone commented;
“The key difference between the sides tonight was; Ks made their moments count, scoring 2 unbelievable finishes – we didn’t!
I thought we were excellent & deserved something from the game! I know this team will bounce back & we are ready for the battle the next 11 games presents”
The Moles now have two games against promotion chasing AFC Portchester. The first game away on Saturday followed by a return game next Tuesday at the Iconic Stadium.
