Moles Do The Double Over The Yellamen

First off, we need to acknowledge the hard work of the groundsteam who put in an extraordinary effort to ensure the game would be on. Despite the weather, the pitch looked incredible and held up remarkable well.

This was the third time the two teams had met his season and with one win each. The latest being the Moles win over Ascot in the Velocity Cup. However, the Moles had never beaten Ascot in the league at step 4.

The Moles took an early lead when Amari Fashnau’s cross took a touch from Lamin Ceesay . The lead was doubled ten minutes later when Ascot keeper Mark Scott came out and brought down Natty Boakye on the edge of the box. Amari step up and slotted home the resulting penalty.

Moles keeper pulled off some fine saves but Lucias Vine was fouled in the 39th minute and he too scored from the penalty.

With the rain becoming more persistent in the second half, the Moles kept applying the pressure to try and extend their lead. This came in the 77th with the third penalty of the game. This time Natty Boakye stepped up to take what was a poor penalty which was saved by keeper Mark Scott. However, he just pushed the ball back to Natty who made no mistake the second time.

We have to comment on a shot by captain Dan Lewis. After a ‘mazey’ run, Dan’s shot was denied by the corner of the goal. If it had gone in, it would have been a contender for goal of the season.

The Moles are now four games unbeated in the league and cup. The win closes the gap on the other teams in the relegation zone – 5 points from safety and with 4 games in hand over some teams.

Next up is the tough trip to Fetcham Grove to play league leaders Leatherhead.
