The Moles Hit For Six

Sometimes it is hard to write a match report and today is one of those days.

The away game against Hayes & Yeading was always going to be a tough game. They were sitting in the playoff positions and had just won manager and goalkeeper of the month. The Moles hadn’t won a league game since August and had a number of key players missing.

Having said that the Moles have played well against top teams so far. They have beaten Harley Wintney twice and had a close game with Leatherhead for a 3-2 defeat. Today was going to be an exception to that.

The Moles started strongly when the Hayes keeper Aaron Watkins saved a shot from Amari Fashanu which fell at the feet of Monty Brady who slotted the ball back past the keeper. They could have had a couple of more when Monty had another chance saved and had a good penalty shoot turned down for a foul on debutant Owen Smith.

That was the end of the good news for the Moles, United scored two in the 20th and 34th minutes to go into the break 2-1 up. The score didn’t stay that way for long when Sam Ashton scored at the start of the second half before then going on to complete his hat-trick with goals in the 71st and 74th minute. To finish the humiliation for the Moles, Tyler Hayles scored a 6th in the 82nd minute.

A poor day at the office for the team and with no time to lick their wounds as they are back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome the Met Police to the Iconic Stadium.
