About Slough Town FC
Slough Town Football Club traces its origins to 1890, when three local teams — Swifts, Slough Albion, and the Young Men’s Friendly Society — merged to form Slough F.C. The club began its journey in the Southern Alliance, competing against teams such as Tottenham Hotspur and Windsor & Eton, the latter becoming their long-standing rivals in what is still known as the Thames River Derby. After an unsuccessful attempt to join the Isthmian League in 1921, Slough joined the Spartan League, but a forced stadium relocation in the 1930s led to a merger with Slough Centre F.C., forming Slough United. Following World War II, the club helped establish the Corinthian League, earning the nickname “The Rebels.” The team enjoyed success in various leagues, including titles in the Corinthian and Athenian Leagues, and eventually rose to the Football Conference in the 1980s. Financial constraints, however, led to a series of relegations, including a demotion in 1998 after failing to meet stadium requirements despite finishing eighth.
Despite these setbacks, Slough Town demonstrated resilience throughout the 2000s and 2010s. The club’s memorable moments included a famous FA Cup victory over Walsall in 2004–05 and an Isthmian League Cup win the same season. After years of fluctuating form, managerial changes in 2013 brought new momentum under Neil Baker and Jon Underwood, who guided the Rebels to promotion in their debut season. Their success continued, culminating in a standout 2017–18 campaign, where Slough reached the FA Cup second round against Rochdale and achieved promotion to the National League South after a dramatic playoff victory over King’s Lynn Town.
