The Moles were back in cup action as they travelled to East Grinstead Town FC for this FA Trophy 1st qualifying round tie.
They couldn’t have got off to a better start when Ethan Lindo squeezed the ball past the East Grinstead keeper in the 1st minute. Unfortunately, this was the best from the Moles in the first half as they struggled to gain any rhythm. The Wasps equalised in the 28th minute with a goal from Wooster. The Moles did pick up in the last 5 minutes of the first half to apply the pressure but couldn’t grab a second goal.
East Grinstead took the lead early in the second half with a goal from Daniel. The Moles were unable to make their mark until the 76th minute when Monty Brady levelled from a penalty for a East Grinstead handball. It looked like East Grinstead would take the win when Laws scored in the 85th minute but the Moles struck straight back when a shot from outside the box from Aaron Gardiner.
With the final score at 3-3, the game went straight to penalties. In front of a noisy home crowd, the Moles missed their 2nd and 3rd penalties for East Grinstead to win 4-2 and progress into the next round.
The Moles hope to bounce back from a poor performance when they travel to South Park (Reigate) next Saturday.
