Recap

The Moles have progressed to the third round of the Velocity Trophy after their 2-0 victory in the hands of Basingstoke thanks to goals from Eddie Lee and James Beauchamp.

Eddie Lee’s did just enough to strike past Mark Scott in the Basingstoke net after just 6 minutes which gave the moles an early advantage. The moles thought they’d doubled their lead through James Beauchamp after some tricky feet from Kai Hobbs meant he was able to release the ball just before getting sithed down on the edge of the area with Beauchamp finding the back of the net as the referee blew his whistle for the earlier foul on Hobbs…

Sean Dallimore was cautioned for his foul on Hobbs, and it proved to be a costly one, as just five minutes later he flew into the back of Kian Duncan which meant his appearance in the game was short lived.

As the first half drew to a close, Basingtoke launched a free kick into the area, only to be denied by the Binfield stopper Devon Gordon, his first real piece of work and what proved to be one of his last…

The second half saw a real shift, as Binfield managed the game well and both sides were able to bring some young players off the bench with the Moles introducing Max Reid being introduced on just 52 minutes.

It was time for James Beauchamp to double the moles’ lead on the hour mark as he was able to bring down Liam Tack’s long ball and round Scott in the Basingstoke net and well and truly finish the game off from the Moles’ point of view.

Binfield made further changes to maintain the fitness of their senior players before a busy few weeks, but their changes meant that more moles made their debuts including Jake Fisher and William Mabukwa.
