Fog - Sutton Common Rovers

Sutton Common Rovers Edge Out Binfield in Fog Fest

Binfield’s Velocity Cup run comes to an end after being edged out by Sutton Common 1-0.

Tyrese Sutherlad’s 48th minute strike was enough to send Sutton Common Rovers through to the next round of the Velocity Cup during a very foggy evening at Hill Farm Lane. Sutherlad cut inside from the edge of the box and his shot went through goalkeeper Abdulhadi, who came in for the injured Chris Grace, and found the back of the net. It was one of the very few chances in the game.

The first half was more like a game a chess – both teams trying to break each other down. Binfield had the better of the chances, the best when Efedje showing great skill to get to the byline but Beauchamp couldn’t quite turn it in. Efedje was then the creator again but this time down the right. His ball was pulled back into a dangerous area but all three Binfield players couldn’t get their shot away and the chance was snuffed out.

Sutton Common came out the better team in the second half and arguably should’ve been 2-3 goals up had it not been for some outstanding defending by Lewis Pegg. Five substitutions in 20 minutes for the Moles tried to turn the tie but it was Sutton who had another great chance to put the tie to bed when they went through one-on-one. But Abdulhadi did enough as Sutton’s forward put it just past the post.

As the fog fell heavily, Binfield’s big chance finally came very late on but Beauchamp couldn’t convert and send the tie to penalties. So, Sutton Common Rovers go through to play Leatherhead next week. As for the Moles, they will now solely focus on the Isthmian League where they will travel to Chipstead on Saturday.
