Match Report – Northwood FC 0-0 Binfield FC

Read our Match report as the points are shared between 10-man Northwood and Binfield during a goal-less stalemate between the two Isthmian League play-off contenders…

Binfield started the brighter of the two sides as they tried to frustrate Northwood by keeping the ball.

It was Northwood however who had the first big chance in the game with Cojocarel coming close from 10-yards out after the ball fell to him inside the penalty area. This was probably the wake-up call Binfield needed after dominating the play for the first quarter of an hour. Pagliaroli then came close to opening the scoring for the Moles as he was able to find time and space in the area to meet Lynch’s cutback across the-6 yard-box, his effort was blocked on the line by Northwood’s Micah Jackson…

The game changing moment came just before the half-an-hour mark after Brandon Kalu was dismissed by the referee for a high challenge on Kai Hobbs.

This meant that Binfield regained a foothold in the game, with Pagliaroli causing the Northwood defence problems before shooting from range, only to be denied by McCorkell…

The Moles came back out for the second half full of energy and looked to have taken the lead early on in the second half when Brad Pagliaroli had the ball in the back of the net, only to have his efforts ruled out for offside.

The Moles looked dangerous in the final third and Lynch came close not long after, but he couldn’t find there right side of the post from close range and the scores stayed level…

Rackley-Hayes used his reflexes to deny Stewart who’s 30-yard effort looked destined for the top corner before the Moles stopper tipped the ball round the post.

At that point, it looked like the 10-man-Northwood were happy with the point as they looked to nullify the Moles threat, and didn’t look to create many chances in the last 15 minutes.

Ngunga and Beauchamp looked to offer their own threats going forwards in the last 20 minutes, by using their pace to stretch the Northwood defence. The Moles had chance with ten minutes to play when both subs combined as Beauchamp tried an acrobatic effort when he met Ngunga’s cross but his overhead kick went just over the bar…

But it was Kai Hobbs who probably had the biggest chance late on, as he lost his marker to find enough space in the box to meet Pagliaroli’s corner, but his bullet header was just wide of the post, much to Northwood’s relief.

A point was probably a fair result in reflection, but an entertaining game nevertheless….
