About Northwood FC

A team was formed in Northwood back in 1899 but Northwood FC in its current form is believed to have been founded in 1926. Their initial history is unclear but they joined the Harrow & Wembley League in 1931 where they won an impressive six titles in a row prior to World War 2 and three more titles after the war. They spent the 1950s and 1960 playing mainly junior-level football.

The club joined the Isthmian League in 1992 via spells in the Hellenic and Spartan Leagues. This was one of their most successful periods which lead them gaining promotion to Step 3 and the Premier Division. They were then switched to the Southern League Premier Division but after relegation were moved back to the Isthmian League Division One North. Another switch back to the Southern League before they were moved back again to their current league – Isthmian League South Central.

Head To Head

Last season, the Moles won the corresponding fixture 3-0 but lost the home leg 1-0.

Binfield didn’t play last week due to the weather. Northwood beat Sutton Common Rovers 5-1 away on their 3g pitch. Northwood currently sit top of the league with 37 points whilst the Moles sit just outside the playoffs in 7th with 27 points. However, Binfield have played 3 games less.

Host of Binfield first-teamers close to return

Binfield’s first team squad has been a little injury hit of later with goalkeeper Chris Grace the latest on the treatment table.

The Moles stopper has been ably deputised for by Harvey Rackley-Hayes and Zakaria Abdulhadi in recent weeks while manager Garry Haylock has also been without the likes of Kian Duncan and Joe Gater.

An update shared with us said: Joe Gater is now going through three weeks of rehabilitation treatment (funded by the PFA) with the hope of a return to the squad in early January.

Kian Duncan should hopefully be returning to training next week following his hamstring injury.

Chris Grace also back in training so will be fighting to get his place back very soon.

We are very happy with the strength of the squad and genuinely believe that December will show everyone how serious we are about being in the hunt for the promotion places this season.

Binfield U12 Chargers won’t settle for a point

Binfield Chargers took on Spencers Wood, a tough opponent doing well in the league, in a midday kick-off. The pitch was a little wet from the amount of rain we’ve had, but conditions were generally favourable for a good game of football, which we certainly got. With first-choice keeper, Ethan out due to concussion, Tommy “the cat” Spender stepped in admirably between the sticks.

Spencers Wood started the brighter, with their centre forward causing the Charger’s defence all sorts of problems. They looked hungrier, with the Chargers on the back foot during most of the opening 10 mins. Our defence struggled to clear the lines, and when we did get the ball forward it tended to go out for a throw, goal kick or otherwise intercepted. The first wake-up call was Spencers getting the ball in the back of the net with a great piece of play down the right, only for the goal scorer to be a foot offside.

A wake-up call Binfield seemed to ignore. A few mins later a very loud alarm call came – after some pressure down the right, Chargers gave away a soft penalty. Tommy and Nathan had a chat and decided just to pick a side to dive to, and fortunately, Tommy guessed right and produced an inspired save, pushing the ball onto the post and rebounding across the goal like a pinball. Fortunately, Edward responded quickest and got to the ball before a Spencers Wood player cleared it.

After this point, it looked like we were finally getting out-of-bed, but not yet washed and dressed. The Chargers looked a little more dangerous in midfield and were getting more time in their half. However, we still just couldn’t seem to string more than a few passes together, Spencers Wood were pressing hard and more physically in the 50/50s.

At around 17 mins, a long ball out from the back landed favourably for their pacey left winger, who was calm on the ball and drove into the box, forcing a save on his first shot and then scoring from the rebound. A well-taken goal and one Chargers can learn from as was defendable.

Fortunately for Binfield, it was early in the game and despite all their earlier pressure, it was the only goal of the 1st half. The Binfield players didn’t panic, and from then on things started to click. The defence had started to work out the powerful, pacey striker and the direct style of Spencers Wood. Nathan was a good match physically for the striker and started to get the better in their ongoing battles. The Binfield midfield started to retain the ball bringing the forwards into the game. The Spencer Wood keeper suddenly had work to do and made several important saves. At this point in the half, it looked a lot better for the Chargers….

The second half started much as the first had ended, with a much more evenly contested game. Chargers were playing some nice football, passing it around, moving, and finding space. Now it was the turn of the Spencers defence to work the change in the Chargers attack. Wilson was increasingly troubling his marker, buzzing around quickly on the turn and drawing the fouls. Down the centre, Leo and Dhruv started winning there 50/50s. Elbie and Callum down the left brought so much-needed bite in the tackle, which lifted the team. Spencers Wood seemed to have lost some of their swagger, however, still looked dangerous on the counterattack.

As the half wore on, you just got the sense that a goal was coming and that it was more likely from a red shirt, as Binfield were putting passes together with more purpose.

In the final 10 minutes, the Chargers really started to put pressure on, reversing what the first 15 mins were from Spencers Wood. You could see Gill was getting increasingly problematic down the left, jinking it around and crossing into the box – Josh was doing the same down the right. Leo playing in a more forward role was proving a handful, being a recipient of several great crosses and getting shots on target. This didn’t stop Spencers from looking dangerous, but our defence had become a wall, frustrating our opposition.

The breakthrough finally came 5 mins before time. Under increasing pressure, Dhruv’s head from a goal kick to Wilson’s feet who switched player to Gil who fired home an outstanding shot. Finally, a goal and well deserved! It would have felt like a gut punch to Spencers Wood 1-1.

Chargers didn’t want just a draw and were pushing for a winner. A minute later Dhruv – who’d been outstanding winning ball after ball – won another and drove it up the pitch, releasing just before being clattered. The referee rightly played on, Wilson jinxed past around a number of defenders, but probably couldn’t believe his luck that everyone stood off him, leaving him to fire into the bottom corner. 2-1 Chargers!

If the first goal was a punch, the second would have felt like a knock-out blow to Spencers Wood who had played a great game. But it was just the turnaround the Chargers needed in fortunes, with two goals in the last five minutes, marks a great victory and one that will live long in the memory!

Final Score 2-1 – Binfield Chargers. MOTM – Nathan. With special mentions to Tommy “The Cat” and a battling Elbie

U10 Panthers Player of the Match

Thought I’d mention Theo who was our player of the match on Saturday.

Scored two goals of which the second was taken from a short corner and he curled into the top right-hand corner from the edge of the box. To top it off the celebration was equally as good.

Fog - Sutton Common Rovers

Sutton Common Rovers Edge Out Binfield in Fog Fest

Binfield’s Velocity Cup run comes to an end after being edged out by Sutton Common 1-0.

Tyrese Sutherlad’s 48th minute strike was enough to send Sutton Common Rovers through to the next round of the Velocity Cup during a very foggy evening at Hill Farm Lane. Sutherlad cut inside from the edge of the box and his shot went through goalkeeper Abdulhadi, who came in for the injured Chris Grace, and found the back of the net. It was one of the very few chances in the game.

The first half was more like a game a chess – both teams trying to break each other down. Binfield had the better of the chances, the best when Efedje showing great skill to get to the byline but Beauchamp couldn’t quite turn it in. Efedje was then the creator again but this time down the right. His ball was pulled back into a dangerous area but all three Binfield players couldn’t get their shot away and the chance was snuffed out.

Sutton Common came out the better team in the second half and arguably should’ve been 2-3 goals up had it not been for some outstanding defending by Lewis Pegg. Five substitutions in 20 minutes for the Moles tried to turn the tie but it was Sutton who had another great chance to put the tie to bed when they went through one-on-one. But Abdulhadi did enough as Sutton’s forward put it just past the post.

As the fog fell heavily, Binfield’s big chance finally came very late on but Beauchamp couldn’t convert and send the tie to penalties. So, Sutton Common Rovers go through to play Leatherhead next week. As for the Moles, they will now solely focus on the Isthmian League where they will travel to Chipstead on Saturday.

Brad Pagliaroli - Binfield FC

Bayley debut, u23s cup exit and Pagliaroli leaves it late

A late show for Binfield’s men’s First Team this week as Brad Pagliaroli sealed a second three points in a row from the penalty spot in the 90th minute against Leatherhead.

Connor Holland had put the Moles ahead after 4 minutes of the Isthmian League South Central Division One tie but Maxwell Mullins pegged them back on 23 minutes.

On the hour the Moles were in a bit of trouble as goalkeeper Chris Grace was forced off, replaced by Zakaria Abdulhadi in the sticks.

There was a second debut for Harrison Bayley in the game but fellow new signing Will Shaw remained an unused sub for the tie that became a sea of red in the final moments following Pagliaroli’s spot kick as Leatherhead’s Oluwafikay Atewologun and Samir Bajja were both sent off.

Binfield under 23s remain top of the Thames Valley Premier League Division Three but lost their first game of the season at Burghfield Reserves in the First Round of the Berkshire Trophy Centre Intermediate Cup.

The young Moles were up against a side a division above them and a couple of experienced faces in the cup tie including former Thatcham Town full-back Paul Taplin as well as much travelled forward Lorenzo Medford so shouldn’t be too down-hearted at a 1-0 defeat.

There was no game again this week for the Allied Counties Moles who’ll resume their campaign this week.

What’s coming up for Binfield this week?

Speaking of which, the Allied’s are finally back in action on Thursday night as they host Frimley Green at Hill Farm Lane.

There’s further midweek action on Monday night as the men’s First Team welcome Sutton Common Rovers for a Velocity Trophy Third Round tie. There’s a preview for that here and tickets can be bought in advance here.

To the weekend and on Saturday the u23s are off to AFC Winkfield Reserves in the TVPL Division Three while the First Team travel to Chipstead in Surrey for a 3pm kick off in the Isthmian League.

Mon 28th Nov: Binfield Firsts vs Sutton Common Rovers (7:45pm)

Thurs 1st Dec: Binfield u18s vs Frimley Green (7:45pm)

Sat 3rd Dec: AFC Winkfield Reserves vs Binfield u23s (2pm)

Sat 3rd Dec: Chipstead vs Binfield First (3pm)

Will Shaw back in a Binfield FC shirt

A busy day at Hill Farm Lane as Binfield are pleased to announce a second signing.

Will Shaw will certainly be a familiar face to many having first appeared in a Moles shirt in the 2017/18 season when he joined from Basingstoke Town.

He left for pastures new during the 2019/20 season and has gone on to feature for Eversley & California FC, Penn & Tyler’s FC, Wokingham & Emmbrook FC and Sheerwater .

Andy Cotton said “Will is A versatile left sided player , technically good , he is quick and has an eye for goal. He returns a much more experienced player who will no doubt relish his chance to shine at a higher level and we are delighted to have him back at the club.”

Next up for the Moles, it’s the small matter of Leatherhead at home as we look to build on Tuesday night’s terrific 4-1 league win over Tooting & Mitcham United. Tickets are available in advance here.
