Binfield secure new striker

Binfield FC are pleased to announce the signing of young striker Conor Lynch.

The Moles have strengthened their forward line with the addition of former Hungerford Town and Basingstoke Town striker Lynch.

Lynch came through the youth ranks at Hungerford and has been part of the Crusaders National League first team squad while also gaining experience out on loan at the likes of Thatcham Town.

Most recently Lynch had been at Step 3 with Hanwell Town.

Welcome to the Moles Conor!

The Victoria Arms pub on Terrace Road North in Binfield.

What pubs are in Binfield?

Up until fairly recently, Binfield village was blessed with three great pubs. Now down to just two, we thought we’d offer a few words of local knowledge on the Victoria Arms and Stag & Hounds.

Firstly, we want to be clear Binfield Football Club does not condone or encourage drinking and driving so please be sensible.

With the sensible bit done. Lets talk pubs.

Stag & Hounds – Binfield, Bracknell RG42 4HA

Of the two, the Stag & Hounds is the bigger and has a large outdoor area and dining area. It is run as part of a small chain of two pubs and is one of the first buildings you’ll see when entering the village from Bracknell.

According to the Berkshire History website: “Part of it is 14th century. It is said to have been a royal hunting lodge visited by King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. The latter supposedly used to sit at the window and watch the Maypole dancing on the green outside.”

The pub has a decent beer selection and a well-stocked bar. There is plenty of seating inside but to really make the most of the pub though you need to be out in the garden when the weather’s a bit warmer.

Travel notes: The Stag & Hounds is the closest pub to Binfield FC, it is a 12 minute walk from the ground, but footpaths are limited along the route so please think carefully about how you will get to the ground – particularly for midweek games.

Victoria Arms – Terrace Road North, Binfield, Bracknell RG42 5JA

The Victoria Arms certainly looks small on the outside, but that hides a decent-sized bar area when you enter inside.

The pub is a Fuller’s pub so if Pride is your thing, you’re in luck. We’ve never been disappointed when enjoying a pint in what is usually a lively atmosphere.

The Vic offers a varied food and drink menu and has an outside space complete with – last time we visited – tent and Sky Sports.

Travel notes: A 20-minute walk from the ground, the pub has paths all along the way, you may also spot the village’s third pub – sadly no longer in use – the Jack O Newbury.

Is there anywhere else to get a drink in Binfield?

Well, of course, the club bar is a decent space to spend a pre or post-match in our view. We always have Rebellion Ale on and there’s usually a good range of whatever else tickles your fancy, plus you can’t really argue with a Mole Burger from our new tea bar.

Then there is the Binfield Club, a members club directly in the centre of the village. Pop over to their website to find out more information.

‘They made it really difficult for us’ Haylock reacts to Binfield win

Binfield manager Garry Haylock admitted his side had to work hard for their 2-1 away Isthmian League win at Bedfont Sports on Saturday.

Haylock said in a post-match chat with Binfield TV: “We worked hard, we didn’t have anyone who had a bad performance, Bedfont are obviously down there and need the points. They worked incredibly hard and made it really difficult for us, they were hard to break down and we had to scrap for goals.”

Isthmian League play-off dates confirmed but Binfield boss BIGGER target in mind

Binfield are currently just outside the Isthmian League South Central Division One play-off places and the dates for the end-of-season promotion showdown have been confirmed.

However, Moles boss Garry Haylock has laid down an entirely different target for his players who are ten points behind top-of-the-table Basingstoke Town with three games in hand.

Haylock said “It’s great that the playoff dates have come out, giving clubs the opportunity to plan.

“However, I am of the opinion that we are capable of winning the league and that’s where our focus will be.”

The challenge has been laid down for the Molemen.

Isthmian League South Central Division Play-Off dates

  • South Central Semi-Finals Wednesday 26th April
  • South Central Final Sunday 30th April

A key fixture ahead for the Moles is the visit of Basingstoke to Hill Farm Lane on Tuesday 31st January. Tickets are available in advance for that game here.

Bedfont Sports are based in Bedfont, West London. They, along with Bedfont FC, probably hold the record for the closest football grounds in the country as their grounds nearly touch.

Bedfont Sports was only founded in 2002 starting out in the Hounslow and District League. A few years later, they moved across to the Middlesex County League before working their way up through the Combined Counties League and gaining promotion to the Isthmian League in 2017/18.

However, in the reverse fixture earlier in this season, the Moles won 3-1.

The Moles were due to play Northwood on Wednesday but this was cancelled due to a frozen pitch. Bedfont’s fixture survived the weather – they played Leatherhead away and lost 2-1.

Matchday: Wednesday January 25, 2023

A team was formed in Northwood back in 1899 but Northwood FC in its current form is believed to have been founded in 1926. Their initial history is unclear but they joined the Harrow & Wembley League in 1931 where they won an impressive six titles in a row prior to World War 2 and three more titles after the war. They spent the 1950s and 1960 playing mainly junior-level football.

The club joined the Isthmian League in 1992 via spells in the Hellenic and Spartan Leagues. This was one of their most successful periods which lead them gaining promotion to Step 3 and the Premier Division. They were then switched to the Southern League Premier Division but after relegation were moved back to the Isthmian League Division One North. Another switch back to the Southern League before they were moved back again to their current league – Isthmian League South Central.

Head To Head Record

Last season, it was the away team that came away with the honours. The Moles coming away with a 3-0 victory away but then losing 1-0 in the reverse fixture at Hill Farm Lane.

Both teams games were called off on Saturday due to the weather. However, the Moles managed to schedule a friendly against Step 3 side Hayes & Yeading FC.

Match Photos: Hayes & Yeading FC – Away

Following the postponed of the Moles game against Hanworth Villa and that of Hayes & Yeading against Bracknell Town, a friendly was arranged between the two sides on the 3G pitch at the SkyEx Community Stadium.

Daisy Spiers travelled to West London to photograph the Moles against Hayes and Yeading who currently sit 8th in Southern League Premier South – one step above the Moles.

The first half was evenly matched and at half-time was 0-0. However, in the second-half, Hayes showed their experience and finished 3-0 winners.

After the game, Moles Chairman Andy Cotton commented “We were delighted to be offered a friendly game this afternoon at Hayes & Yeading where both sides were able to field their 1st Teams. Both squads of players given the opportunity to play a competitive game with both clubs keen to keep their respective sides sharp whilst league games are called off during this cold snap. Many thanks for hosting the Moles today – very good close encounter that keeps our confidence high going into our next league game on Tuesday where we play Northwood”

Haylock praises resilient Moles

Garry Haylock was again, full of praise after the performance of his ‘resilient’ moles side as they dug deep against fellow playoff contenders Chertsey Town on Saturday afternoon.

It was “Another fantastic performance from the boys and I am so pleased that we got our reward.”

“We started quickly and after having a goal disallowed (not offside on the video!) and a penalty claim refused – stonewall on the video, it’s easy to start thinking it’s not going to be your day…”
The moles took an early lead though, thanks to Brad Pagliaroli’s 8th goal of the campaign.

The moles conceded an equaliser just two minutes later and Haylock admitted his admiration for his squad… “The resilience in this group is amazing and even conceded an equaliser didn’t faze the group”

“Towards the end we became a little ragged but still dug in and I can’t remember Harvey having to make a save

The key now is to replicate this again and again, starting on Tuesday”
