Leatherhead 2-0 Binfield FC – Match Report

The Moles leave Leatherhead in defeat (but with their heads held high) on Saturday afternoon after a determined performance.

Leatherhead almost took the lead after just two minutes as a half-clearance from an early Tanners corner fell to Beaney, whose effort from just outside the penalty area was crashed against the underside of the crossbar before eventuality being cleared.

The early Leatherhead pressure paid off though when Ibrahim Olutade was on hand to slot the ball under Killian Barrett after a square ball from Trevan Robinson set him up perfectly for the finish.

It was then when the hosts started to pile the pressure on the Moles, through a series of corners but Binfield managed to deal with them well.

Tyler D’Cruz was forced off for the Moles on 25 minutes after a slight muscle problem meant he had to be treated on the field of play before eventually being replaced by Jake Fisher.

It was then the Moles’ turn to put Leatherhead under pressure, when a brilliant touch from Rahzir Smith-Jones allowed him to splay a tidy ‘one-two’ with Rechan Esprit before firing a shot over the bar from the edge of the area.

The Moles then had the ball in the back of the net, and thought they’d found an equaliser through Manuchim Oke-William, but his effort was ruled out by the assistant referee.
From the resulting indirect free-kick, Leatherhead looked to counter and had a goal ruled out themselves just a minute later when Olutade had the ball in the back of the net for the second time, but failed to beat the Binfield offside-trap when he made his way into the box.

The start of the second-half saw no major chances for either side until some tricky footwork on the right from Connor Jeanes’ quick footwork on the left gave him some space to cross to Dontaye Whittaker whose header from close range went over the bar.

Leatherhead then doubled their lead through Trey Masikini on the 70th minute through a quick counter attack… The substitute, combined with Tyler Cox before rifling a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.

The hosts nearly added a third goal with just minutes remaining but Killian Barrett did well to deny Masikini his second of the afternoon, with a low block with his legs.

Next up for the Moles is Northwood FC on Tuesday night, at The Iconic Stadium.

Binfield FC 1-2 Marlow – Match Report

An improved second-half performance is not enough to mount a Moles comeback. Marlow take the points after first-half goals from Louis Rogers and David Rogalski saw the visitors two-up at the break.

Marlow took advantage of some lacklustre defending from a set-piece as Louis Rogers tapped home from close range after just four minutes at The Iconic Stadium.

The Moles responded well though, as Tyler D’Cuz met a Luke Wayborn long-throw and forced a save from Aaron Watkins who expertly tipped his goal-bound header over the bar.

Marlow looked the most likely to find the second goal of the game with an onslaught of corners but the Moles defence stood firm, including a brilliant block, on the line, from Tyler D’Cruz before Chris Ovenden’s header went close to finding the target.

The Moles then had their go from a set-piece, with Wayborn’s long throw from the left finding D’Cruz, whose header was comfortably claimed by Watkins again.

A quick break from the visitors saw top-goalscorer David Rogalski break free but some fantastic defending from Reese Jones Jr kept him at bay.

Rogalski, the Marlow number nine who had 33 goals this season in all competitions before today, went on to show why he’s so feared by teams in this division, as his close range finish doubled the visitor’s lead just before the break.

The Moles weren’t done though and started the second-half in fine fashion as Manuchim Oke-William headed home Ben Stallard’s corner to half the deficit just three minutes after the break.

This set the game up on a knife edge and some firm tackles from both sides, saw Connor Jeanes and Jordi Ndozid in the referee’s book.

Despite chances from both sides, neither team managed to find that crucial goal to really change the course of the match in the closing stages.

While the Moles looked to find an equaliser, Marlow looked to hit on the counter with a quick break down the right with Kai Hamilton-Olise finding Dave Tarpey in the middle who crashed his effort against the post.

Next up for the Moles is Sutton Common Rovers at The Iconic Stadium on Tuesday night before a trip to Leatherhead next weekend…

Tyler16x9

Tyler D’Cruz on his return to football for The Moles.

It’s been a tough few months for Moles striker, Tyler D’Cruz, since signing for the club in December. Tyler’s life for the Moles started with a bang thanks to two goals in his first three appearances for the club before being forced off with a devastating injury when we faced Met Police at Imber Court.

Tyler, 26, spoke to ‘Moley’ about his return to action as his goal levelled things up for The Moles after 22 minutes in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat away to Thatcham Town.

“It’s crazy to think I’m back on the pitch so soon and as a credit to everyone that has helped over the last few weeks to get me back out on the pitch.”

Tyler spoke about the feeling of scoring that goal, after an extended spell on the sidelines. “Obviously scoring that goal is a little bit more special than any other goal I think because of the of the circumstances so it felt really good to get my name back on the scoresheet.”

Tyler made his debut for the club in December, and was well aware of the task ahead of him when he signed for the club, “When I came in and spoke to Rosco (Ross Weatherstone), I knew what it was going to be like I knew it was going to be hard, and we’re getting there. After that Met Police game, we’re building and building and building each game and in the changing room we all believe, and I think the belief is the biggest thing.”

Speaking about the importance of the next two weeks, Tyler is under no illusions how important the upcoming games are for the rest of the season, “It’s going to be huge, but we’re all looking forward to it and then take every game as it comes.”

Ross Weatherstone Reacts to late Thatcham defeat.

After Saturday’s loss to Thatcham Town, Moley caught up with first-team manager Ross Weatherstone as he reacted to the match…

Moley – Ross, a tough defeat to take after fighting back from behind and conceding late on…

Weatherstone – Yeah, definitely. I think as I said to the team after the game okay to be disappointed not winning the game, but they can’t be disappointed in relation to the performance that gave, you know, we were scoring the last really valid on time and deservedly so. And unfortunately, just a couple of areas where we switched off meant that we gave them another opportunity to go. Really, really tough one because for me, we definitely deserve something called the game. If anything, the chances that we had, we should have probably won the game.

Moley – You’ve been quite vocal in the fact that we probably deserved something from the game – just talk us through that…

Weatherstone – When we’re performing the way we are, the game is about scoring goals and taking chances and, you know, we call to hit the post twice, and in my opinion, have at least four other good opportunities to score and that’s often against the full world not performing, you know, that’s just sometimes how the game presents itself. You know, we all know that gold change momentum in the game as well. You know, it’s actually a  good side. But I just think the, when you look at those kinds of stats and look at that tool, and they probably scored three goals out of maybe four or five opportunities that they really had a goal scoring threat side, they work really hard, you know, they were clinical. I would think it’s just disappointing not to come away with something because, you know, outperformance definitely warranted something.

Moley – There’s been some great performances in recent weeks but how important is it that we do back to winning ways?

Weatherstone – Winning games of football is always huge. I think the thing to highlight in the last probably six games you know, we’ve played Hartley Whitney, Southall, Westfield and South Park as well. We’ve played top-half teams, we’ve competed and we’ve picked up some points. So we got to be we got to think about the performances that we’ve put in in that game and we’ve got to take those performances into the games that we’ve got coming up with against things that are in and around us, because you know, winning those games are key. Getting back to winning ways is massively important. And then Tuesday night, which is our next game against Corinthian Casuals becomes a becomes a huge game and everyone in and around the club or in around the community to get to the iconic on Tuesday night to support us and get behind us.we’re going to need everybody to get out of this situation.

Moley – Taking you back all the way to the start of your of your reign with the club. We spoke about opportunities and I think the next three games all at home, all at the Iconic Stadium, does this week offer as opportunity for us?

Weatherstone – Absolutely. I think when you look at the three fixtures that we have, definitely Saturday against Marlow is is probably a free hit for us in relation to how they’re performing and challenging right now. So but that aside, you know, I think that as long as we can continue to perform the way we are completing the way we are and staying engaged the way we are, if we can just eliminate some of the errors when we make it. I still believe we can get these results that we need to to get the points that we want to get on the board.

Match report

Binfield FC 1-1 South Park – Match Report

10-man Binfield FC earn a point on Tuesday night as they held on after a late onslaught from visitors, South Park Reigate.

The Moles went into the match without playing a competitive fixture for over two weeks, due to multiple postponements after a wet second half of February, Binfield FC hosted South Park and Reigate Isthmian League action on Tuesday night.

It was the Moles who started the brighter of the two sides as they put plenty of balls into the box and set pieces but unable to grind out a chance.

However, it was from a Moles corner that South Park created their first chance of the game. A swift counter attack with the ball finding Sam King on the right. He cut inside and drilled his shot at Killian Barrett who did well to make the initial save and Jahkeylo Burgess was there to clear the ball away.

King was causing trouble for the Moles defence and should’ve put South Park ahead five minutes later but he dragged his shot wide of the left post. It then appeared that he was through on the Moles goal again but a great recovery run from Luke Wayborn prevented the chance.

The Moles pushed hard themselves for an opener but failed to create a clear-cut chance. The closest they came was on the stroke of half-time, when a scramble in the box resulted in the ball falling to Ethan Lindo but his shot was well-blocked.

The moles started the second half brightly as Matt flick on from Luke Weyborn throat found Dan Louis, however, his head up was comfortably saved by the South Park, goalkeeper.

The moles came close again as Luke Wayborn kept the ball alive after a half clearance from a corner, but Dontaye Whittaker’s volley flew over the bar. It’s then seemed, it would only be a matter of time before the moles found an opener as Rechan Esprit’s free kick, crashed off the post before being cleared.

The goal eventually came for the moles; and it was top-goalscorer Dontaye Whittaker who broke the deadlock as he smashed home from close range after Tyler D’Cruz’s attempted overhead kick fell straight into the path of the Binfield number 11, for his 12th goal of the season.

Just five minutes later though, defender Jack Matton’s foul on the edge of the area was deemed as a dismissible offence by referee Craig Davenport and the Moles were reduced to 10-men for the final twenty minutes.

Despite some valiant, defending from the ten-man-moles, it took just seven minutes for South Park to find the equaliser as Craig McGee levelled things up with just 15 minutes remaining.

South Park 2-1 Binfield – Match Report

The Moles fell to a narrow defeat at Whitehall Lane after a stunning strike sealed the points for South Park

It was the hosts who had the first chance to take the lead. Brendan Murphy-McVey’s free kick called Killian Barrett into action but he saved well to his left.

The Moles then began to attempt to control proceedings but were unable to unlock the South Park defence with shots from Rechan Esprit and captain Dan Lewis both well blocked.

Then on 28 minutes, South Park took the lead. Jamarie Brissett dispossessed Elijas Bagdonavicius and drove at the Binfield defence. He did well to stay on his feet past Jack Matton and stuck the ball well. Barrett again made a good save but the ball fell to Craig McGee who was able to take a touch and place it into the left corner.

South Park then grew into the game and had a couple of chance to double their lead before half time. Brissett broke through the Moles defence and took the ball around Barrett but some great covering defending from Luke Wayborn prevented the shot. Then McGee couldn’t keep his header down from a corner.

The Moles started the better half the brighter team and after a period of pressure they got their equaliser when Luke Wayborn’s throw created a scramble in the box and Dontaye Whittaker was able to poke the ball home.

The goal sparked the Moles into life briefly as Rechan Esprit latched onto a loose ball but his shot was blocked and went behind for a corner.

However, the home team retook the lead through a moment of brilliance. Kelvin Manuel Massango did well to get away from Connor Jeanes, cut inside and curl one into the top right corner giving Barrett no chance.

The Moles pushed for an equaliser from set-pieces. Wayborn’s long throw caused more uncertainty but the ball wouldn’t fall for a Moles player. Then, five minutes from time, Dan Lewis was unable to keep his header down from 7 yards out.

After three games on the road, the Moles return to the Iconic on Tuesday to face Northwood.

Uxbridge FC 2-2 Binfield FC – Match Report

Binfield FC dig deep to rescue the Moles an Isthmian League point on the road on Tuesday night. Substitute Ethan Lindo scored two goals in the last ten minutes to level things up at the death.

It was the moles looked the most likely to take the lead early on, with Dontaye Whittaker bringing the ball down, but penalty appeals were waved away despite the Binfield man looking to have been taken down inside the area.

Uxbridge’s Hamilton Antonio was then cautioned for a late challenge on Whittaker, just minutes later, with the Moles man, who seemed to be causing the Red’s defence some trouble early on, shaking off any injury worries to continue.

Uxbridge had a chance to take the lead not long after, but a fantastic sliding tackle from Jack Matton was enough to snuff out Christian Johnson’s threat from the right hand side. His defensive partner, Luke Wayborn was then the first Moles man in the referee’s book as his challenge on Elijah Anthony was deemed a bookable offence by referee Thomas Berry.

Uxbridge then had another chance on 40 minutes as Anthony beat the Binfield offside trap down the right and cut inside before Matton came across to clear for a corner.

The start of the second half saw very limited action in the opening 10 minutes until Luke Paris got his head on the end of an Alex Paine corner but his effort was comfortably saved by Killian Barrett.

It was Uxbridge who grabbed the opening goal, as Christian Johnson fired home from close range as the Moles failed to clear the ball from a free-kick.

It was a set-piece again that caused the Moles issues and it was Elijah Anthony who doubled the host’s lead.

The Moles then shuffled their pack and it paid off, as substitute Ethan Lindo halved the deficit just eight minutes after replacing Rahzir Smith-Jones, as he fired the ball home to spark a Binfield onslaught for the final ten minutes.

It was Lindo again who dealt The Reds a final blow, with just minutes remaining as he pounced on a loose ball inside the area and calmly slotted home to earn the Moles a point on the road.

Ross Weatherstone Reacts to Hanworth Villa Point.

After Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Hanworth Villa, Moley caught up with first-team manager Ross Weatherstone as he reacted to the match…

Moley – Ross, it’s late heartbreak for the Moles – conceding a late equaliser, but do you look at it as a point gained or two dropped this evening?

Weatherstone – It’s an interesting question. One thing I want to say before anything, I’m just so proud of every single player and everyone at the football club. We’ve come here tonight against a really strong Hanworth Villa team and we’ve competed. When you go one up in the game and you know you’re at 90 minutes of course, you’re looking at the game and thinking wow, is that two points dropped? But, when I go through my targets, etc, for games, for me, this is a point gained, I want the team to be proud of their work. I don’t want them to be disappointed and I want them to get ready for Saturday.

Moley – There was plenty of defensive resilience out there for the full 90 minutes in difficult conditions. There’s definitely plenty to be proud of in that sense…

Weatherstone – I think I just said it, in my answer to the last question.vWhen you look at the shift that these backline is putting in, include the goalkeeper in that. The key thing for me is they’re following the instructions. They’re listening to the out of possession detail, and more importantly, they’re executing it. It’s lovely just to hear their manager come over and be complimentary of the team, complimentary of our organised we are, but again, that doesn’t necessarily get you to three points, but it definitely means that the process we’re on in the right tracks regarding the process.

Moley – I think we can kind of summed up there, a little bit disappointed. But is it that almost the perfect sign of progress. That the players have come off the pitch a little bit gutted, even though it is a point gained as we previously said?

Weatherstone – Yeah. I think I’ve said it three or four times in the interview, I’m just so proud of the group and the progress. I look at everybody, that everyone behind the scenes, we’re all together and we’re all in it, and we’re all having a go and, and I think I’ve said it enough times, that’s the character that’s the personality I want within the club. That’s what we’ve got to continue to do what we’ve been doing for the upcoming games. We go into Saturday and, and we hope and we continue to prepare right on Thursday night and and we go into that game. We’ve we’ve a lot of positive momentum in my opinion.

Moley – We speak a lot about the work that goes on off the pitch, but surely notnothing can prepare us for that goal, it was a great strike.

Weatherstone – I think the thing the thing that I’m most proud about all of our strikers you know, when you look at Ethan (Lindo) has scored three and three but is unfortunately not here tonight. Dontaye (Whittaker) scored two against Hartley Wintney on his comeback from injury. Els (Elijas Bagdonavicius), he’s been in has been fantastic.

I said to him before the game I said if you get a chance outside the box, you’ve got to fire. And fair play to him, he asked the question of Harvey (Rackley-Hayes), obviously, an ex-‘ keeper of ours. He deserved his goal over the three games that he’s played for us, so again, really proud of him and, and obviously now we just look at, we look at Saturday now…
