Match Report: Farnham – Home

The Moles welcomed the league champions Farnham Town to the Iconic Stadium for the last game of the season. They were hoping to avoid the 7-0 defeat at the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

The game didn’t get off to a good start when Moles keeper CJ was sent off after just 3 minutes for bringing down Farnham striker Adam Liddle. Connor Jeanes stepped up between the sticks for the second time this season.

The visitors took the lead in the 16th minute when Jordan Stepney drilled home a free kick from the edge of the box. They doubled the lead in the 28th minute when Great Evans beat the offside trap and put the ball past the stand-in keeper. Just on the stroke of half-time, Adam Liddle scored a third for the half to finish 3-0 to the visitors.

The Moles made a change at half-time replacing Connor Jeanes in goal with Brighton Morrison. There were few chances in the second half with no further goals.

The Moles have secured step 4 football for the 5th season and have finished two places higher than last season. The players have two months to recover before pre-season starts at the beginning of July!!!

Introducing: Farnham Town FC

Farnham Town Fc

After 41 league games, this is it – the last game of the season and it is a big one. We welcome league champions Farnham Town to the Iconic Stadium.

Matchday: Saturday 26th April 2025. KO: 3pm

Who are Farnham Town FC?

Farnham Town Football Club was established in 1906 through the merger of Farnham Bungs and Farnham Star. Initially, they joined the Surrey Intermediate League, achieving championship titles in the 1929–30 and 1930–31 seasons. The club transitioned to the Surrey Senior League in 1947 and had notable success in the 1960s, winning three consecutive league titles from 1965 to 1968. After a brief stint in the Spartan League, they became part of the London Spartan League in 1975. However, following a challenging period, including relegation and financial difficulties, Farnham spent time in various leagues before stabilizing in the Combined Counties League.

In recent years, Farnham Town has experienced a resurgence, culminating in their promotion to the South Central Division of the Isthmian League after a successful 2023–24 season.

Head To Head

The teams played each other on a Tuesday night back in September and it was one to forget for the Moles as Farnham won 7-0.

Match Report: Guernsey – Home

We welcomed Guernsey to Iconic Stadium for a must-win game for the visitors. Anything less than a win for them would mean relegation.

This came across in the game play – Guernsey played like a team fighting for their survival at step 4. There was few chances for the Moles in the first half and the Green Lions took the lead in the 34th minute with a goal from Brandon Wallace. The second half wasn’t much difference and the visitors soon doubled their lead when Monty Brady turned the ball into his own net.

Despite manager Ross Weatherstone making a number of changes in the second half, the Moles weren’t able to get going and the game finished 2-0 to the visitors. For Guernsey, this means that they now must beat Harrow Borough on Saturday and rely on Sutton Common Rovers beating Met Police for them to survive.

For the Moles, we welcome league champions Farnham Town to the Iconic Stadium with the team hoping to avoid a repeat of the 7-0 defeat the last time the teams met in September.

Introducing: Guernsey FC

Guernsey FC

The Moles welcome Guernsey FC to the Iconic Stadium. The visitors are in the need of points as they seek to avoid relegation.

Matchday: Thursday 24th April 2025. KO: 7.45pm

Who are Guernsey FC?

Guernsey Football Association has existed for nearly 130 years but Guernsey FC only joined the England Football Period in 2011. They were the first team from the Channel Islands to join a mainland league – Jersey and then the Isle of Man have since followed suit.

They initially joined the Combined Counties Football League Division One which they won in their first season and gained promotion to the Premier League. After only one season in this division, they were promoted to Isthmian League Division One South. They have played at this level since – losing out in the playoffs in the 2013–14 season.

Head To Head

When the Moles visited Guernsey earlier this season, they came away as 2-1 winners thanks to a 95th minute goal from Ethan Gold. Over the last couple of seasons, the honours have been fairly even between the two teams with 2 Moles wins, 2 draws and 3 wins for Guernsey.

The Green Lions are in need of points to pull of their own great escape. They need six points from their remaining two games with the Met Police not gaining any and overturning a -15 goal difference to survive.

Match Report – Leatherhead – Away

For the last time this season, the Moles were on the road – visiting Fetcham Grove to play Leatherhead FC.

In the first half, the Moles had several chances. Ethan Lindo had a one on one with the keeper and went around him but his shot was just wide. Razhir Smith-Jones had a shot which was just wide of the post. The hosts had several chances of their own but most of them were denied by the woodwork. The teams went in at half-time level 0-0.

The Moles broke the deadlock in the 49th minute when Razhir played a 1-2 with Logan Coles before Rechan Espirit fired the ball into the bottom corner. This woke this hosts up and then scored two goals in quick succession – Franzen Jones in the 56th and Barlett-Antwi in the 59th.

The Moles looked like they would keep the score at 2-1 but Leatherhead scored two late goals – a second for Bartlett-Antwi in the 89th minute and then his hat trick in the 93rd minute.

Despite the defeat, the Moles are now safe from relegation as Guernsey lost. We welcome the Green Lions to the Iconic Stadium on Thursday night before we face league champions Farnham Town for the final game of the season on Saturday.

Introducing: Leatherhead FC

Leatherheadfc

Following the postponement of the game against Guernsey on Saturday, the Moles travel on Bank Holiday Monday to Leatherhead FC.

Matchday: Monday 21st April. KO 3pm

Who are Leatherhead FC?

Leatherhead came into being in its’ current form with the merger of Leatherhead Rose and Leatherhead United just after the end of the Second World War. They based themselves at the home of Leatherhead United, Fetcham Grove. This is still there home to this day.

The merger club won the Surrey League four times in a row before moving across to the Metropolitan and District league in 1950.

In the 1970s, they had several runs deep into the FA Cup. In 1974, they beat Colchester in the 2nd round, Brighton in the 3rd round before losing 3-2 away at Leicester City despite being 2-0 up.

They struggled in the early 1980s and were relegated down to Isthmian Division 2. In 2011, they had an extra time win over Dulwich Hamlet to take them back into the Premier Division. They only survived for one season before being relegated back to Division One South. Another promoted via playoffs and relegated places them into the South Central Division.

Last Time Out

The two teams played out a 2-2 draw at the Iconic Stadium just before Christmas with two goals from Rahzir Smith-Jones.

Match Report – Hayes & Yeading Away

On a warm April Saturday afternoon, the Moles travelled to West London to play promotion chasing Hayes & Yeading. The teams met at the beginning of February when Hayes & Yeading were 1-0 winners.

Hayes & Yeading took the lead in the 10th minute when the Moles defence failed to deal with the ball and Tyler Hayles lobbed Moles keeper CJ. The Moles equalised two minutes later when Pennicott-Bowen’s long throw goes through everyone and Smith-Jones was there to put the pressure on the back post with the last touch coming off a Hayes player and into the back on the net.

United took the lead again just five minutes later when they were awarded a penalty for handball which was converted by Tayer Hayles. They were awarded another penalty in the 36th minute when CJ was judged to have brought down a United player. CJ saved the initial shot from Kaylen Hinds and then pulled off a superb save to prevent Herson Alves scoring on the rebound.

There were further opportunities for both teams but that is how the first half finished. United leading 2-1.

United extended their lead in the 57th minute when Kaylen Hinds made up for his penalty miss. The Moles pulled one back immediately when Esprit got caught but Monty continued the run and drives to the byline. Lindo’s shot is initially blocked but after a scramble Brady is there to finish his own move. The first goal for Monty for the senior team.

The excitement continued in the 78th minute when Logan Coles picked up the ball and drove at the Hayes defence. His shot hit the inside of the bar but comes out to Lindo who puts it into an empty net. United had the final say when they scored the winner in the 83rd minute with a goal from George Sippets.

Final Score: Hayes & Yeading 4 – Binfield 3

Overall a great performance from the Moles against a team vying for promotion through the playoffs. Despite going two goals down, they never gave up and came close to snatching a point.

They welcome Guernsey to the Iconic Stadium next Saturday 18th KO 2pm.
