Moles Draw With The Royals

The Moles travelled down to the South Coast for their first ever meeting against AFC Porchester. Porchester were promoted to the Isthmian South Central Division last seasin as champions of the Wessex Premier Division.

Manager Ross Weatherstone shuffled his team with new signing Sam Mead making his first start with Amari Fashnau on the bench along with returnee Tyler D’Cruz who joined the club on dual-reg with Wallingford & Crowmarsh.

It is hard to write a match report for a game that was full of end-to-end action. The Moles took the lead in the 16th minute when Sam Mead scored in a crowded box for his first goal for the club.

Due to a number of stoppages, the first half seemed to go on forever and the home team scored in the 7th minute of injury time with the last kick of the half.

The second half was much of the same. The best change came when Natty charged down a cleared from Porchester keeper Cameron Scott but the ball didn’t fall favourably and was unable to take advantage of the undefended goal.

If we thought the first half went on forever, then the second half went on even longer. With the home team picking up a number of head injuries, the referee played 10 minutes of injury time.

After the game, Moles manager Ross Weatherstone commented “A solid away performance by the team today, against a strong team. It’s a pleasure working with this group of moles who are giving everything for the club. We all can’t wait to be back at Hill Farm Lane on Tuesday. It would be great to see as many of you as possible.”

The Moles will be pleased with picking up a point against a promotion chasing team whilst being disappointed in not being able to pick up the 3 points.

Next up is the return match against AFC Portchester on Tuesday 17th March KO 7:45pm.
