Who are Hendon FC?
Hendon Football Club began life in 1908 as Christchurch Hampstead, quickly rising through local league divisions before adopting the name Hampstead Town in 1909. The club enjoyed early success, winning multiple titles in the Finchley & District, London, and Middlesex leagues. By 1914 they had been admitted to the Athenian League, though World War I curtailed play after just two matches. Following the war, Hampstead won the United Senior League before rejoining the Athenian League in 1919. A series of name changes followed, becoming Hampstead in 1926, Golders Green in 1933, and finally Hendon in 1946. The club enjoyed success in the Athenian League throughout the 1940s and 1950s, winning three league titles and reaching both the FA Cup first round and the FA Amateur Cup final, eventually lifting the Amateur Cup in 1960. A move to the Isthmian League in 1963 brought more silverware, including a league and Amateur Cup double in 1964–65.
The 1970s saw further highlights, with Hendon winning the FA Amateur Cup again in 1972 and defeating Italian opposition to claim the Coppa Ottorino Barassi. They also reached the FA Cup third round in 1973–74, drawing Newcastle United away before narrowly losing in a replay. Hendon continued competing in the top tier of the Isthmian League until the 2000s, when they faced challenges including relegation battles and financial difficulties. In 2010 the club was taken over by the Hendon FC Supporters Trust, securing its future. Recent years have seen playoff runs in 2014–15 and 2017–18, though promotion proved elusive. After being placed in the Southern League Premier Division South in 2018, Hendon were transferred back to the Isthmian League Premier Division at the end of the 2023–24 season and were relegated back to step 4 the following season.
