With six games unbeaten, the Moles hit the road down to deepest, darkest Kent to play Ramsgate FC in the quarter final of the Velocity Cup.

Who are Ramsgate FC?

Ramsgate FC traces its roots back to at least 1886, though the original club folded in 1924 and was succeeded at Southwood Stadium by Ramsgate Glenville. After Glenville failed to reform following World War II, a new club, Ramsgate Athletic, was established and retained that name until 1972. Athletic enjoyed its most successful early period in the original Kent League, winning two consecutive titles, several county cups, and reaching the first round of the FA Cup before the league collapsed in 1959. The club then moved to the Southern League, initially performing well but eventually resigning and returning to the re-formed Kent League in 1976.

After nearly three decades of steady but unspectacular progress, Ramsgate’s fortunes revived in 2004 with the return of manager Jim Ward. Under his leadership the club won back-to-back championships, climbing to the Isthmian League Premier Division and renewing local derbies with Margate. Strong finishes followed, including a play-off appearance and an Isthmian League Cup win, though relegation came soon after. More recently, the 2023–24 season marked a historic FA Cup run to the second round, highlighted by a win over Woking, and despite play-off disappointment that year, Ramsgate secured promotion as champions the following season.

Cup Run So Far

To get to the quarter finals, the Moles have beaten Hartley Wintney 2-1, Premier Division side Carshalton Atheletic 3-0 and local rivals Ascot United 3-1. Ramsgate beat Ashford United 4-1 and Welling United 3-2.

Last season, the Moles made it to the semi-final beating Premier Division sides Dulwich Hamlet and Hastings United before losing to Billericay Town. Ramsgate lost on penalties in the second round to Sevenoaks Town.
